My Take on the Lip-Syncing Police Videos

July 26, 2018 By Gaby Adam

The U.S. police videos with the men and women in uniform lip-syncing and dancing to famous songs, including this gem from the Seattle Police Department, are an awesome idea. Not only do they help the internal morale of these police stations, they help humanize the police in their communities. Suddenly, police forces across the nation are going from “one of them” to “one of us.”

As a public relations and communications expert, I believe these videos are brilliant!

Most people know by now that the videos are being made in response to a creative challenge in June from the Norfolk Police Department in Virginia. Their video is also great.  Law-enforcement agencies from around the country are participating and tens of millions of Americans are viewing the videos.

There is still some controversy over if it has been a good or bad idea, as discussed in this recent New York Times article, but I believe the good of the viral video campaign far outweighs any bad.
